    Default First Finishing/Restore Job

Hi guys, not much experience with woodwork but it's something I've wanted to get into for a while and now I've got a bit of spare time I thought I would get into a few projects.

I've picked up a hardwood bed head for a king ensemble and want to strip it back down to the timer, and then re-stain/paint it into a modern darker chocolate colour (to match this - IKEA | Living room storage | Bookcases | EXPEDIT | Bookcase), but I really have no idea where to start so I found this forum and thought I would get some advice.

I've picked up a belt sander, but I'm wondering if it would be easier, or even possible to just use a paint stripper to lift everything off before sanding it smooth. Do I need to add some sort of sealer before I apply the new paint and do I also need to add a clear coat afterwards?

If someone wouldn't mind laying out the steps involved I would appreciate it greatly.

I wouldnt use a belt sander at all on it, use paper & block after stripping.
paint strip first( wipe down with metho & 000 steel wool) to remove any thing left from stripping) see how much color is left, then sand up thru the grades to 240.
You may not get all the old color out .
