Switch for powerpoint-plugged flouro light
Hi all, I have the following flourescent light: http://www.cromptonlighting.com/cat0...=363&subcat=10
I am installing this in a wine cellar. It's plugged into a normal power point. Because the switch is located on the fitting itself, it's too awkward to get to. I'd like to place a switch in a more convenient location.
I've cut the power cord - it's 2 core (blue and brown) and I have a normal architrave switch that I'd like to use.
Which terminals should the wires connect to? Brown being active, I am guessing it's not switched but the neutral (blue) is? Can anyone advise what's best practice in terms of which wire should be connected to which terminal on the switch? It's a standard switch with loop, 1, 2 and common.
Oh, and anyone planning to tell me not to do it and to hire a sparkie - please don't. I can never get one to show up on time, if at all, and remember that this light comes with a standard 2 prong plug for a normal power point. It's legal to splice the cable, which is what I'm doing, and to put a switch on it mid stream. My house is RCD protected and I'm overly cautious with this sort of thing.
Thanks in advance...
