This forum happens to be private property, and we're all guests here. If you don't like it, see that little x in the top right hand corner of your screen ? That's the door.

I am sick to death of these types of threads.
It's a wonder Neil doesn't just chuck the whole lot in sometimes.
I remember the days when rep points meant something. Then the whingers started. We should have this; it's not fair because of that; why can't I do what he does
The result was that the rep points system was watered down to the point where it's irrelevant and hardly used any more. And the bloke who caused all the fuss resigned from the forums !
There ya go. I've vented for the day.

Flame away
I have no idea what got eddie going and really dont care.
However there is a grain of truth to his rantings.
As in life everything is done for a reason. Ubeaut run the forum for a reason. I have no idea what that reason is but am thankful all the same. The name öf the site is "Woodwork Forums", not Neils Woodwork site or something similar and this is where the difficulty lies.
It is a public forum, with lots of personalities in the mix. There are cool dudes, jokers, serious sams, jerks, whingers, spoiled baby boomers, middle aged smarties, women and young people just to name a few. All with different personalities and behaviours..
Compared to other sites this one is heavily moderated. I dont think you can blame the moderators cause compared to other sites there are far more whiners on this site.
Cant blame the whiners as much because some moderators come across like a dictator.
Damn, lost my train of thought - anyways what im trying to say is this;
Whiners would you stop trying to change the world to suit you.
Mods stop taking things personally and getting upset.

With all due respect, Dazzler, I can't agree with you. My experience is that the Mods here are quite tolerant (after all, they let ME in
). For example, the fact that Eddie's dummy spit even saw the light of day speaks volumes about the forbearance of the Mods IMO. It is intended to be a family-orientated forum for the most part, and there is the Orange Room for otherwise.
I believe Neil, and the Mods strike a good balance--allowing wide leeway for honest (and reasonably civil) disagreement and even some all-in wrestling up to a point. Not to mention the Friday drivel. I, for one, have no problems with the rules.
(Well, that's enough sucking up for one post.)
Cheers,
Bob

In the main I go along with this, although I don't notice whiners. I think the important point is that once this forum is "put out there" it does become a public forum, and the public feedback should have some influence on how it's run.
When obviously decent people like Eddie criticise the forum it should provide the grounds for debate on the issue, not for a personal attack by members trying to relieve boredom by invigorating a controversy.
For mine, the forum is run beautifully, and I've always felt that Neil's (and the Mods) intervention has been strong but reasonable, along the lines of: "we're not having a huge number of rules, but what we do have will be enforced rigorously".
This keeps the nutters out, and allows the forum to be accessible for a large range of people of different age groups, gender, ethnic background and so on.

Eddie, I've been watching this for a couple of days now, and think the crux of the problem has been missed.
If you (or I for that matter) have a problem with certan people here, PM them. No need to rant and rave out in the open, as it only stirs the place up,....... unless that was your intention!
Then you can rant and rave as much as you like, cause it seems it's only you with the problem.
Suck it up
Get over it, and

Hey
Thanks Rossluck you said what I was trying to say more clearer. Not Whiners perhaps but complainers.
I imagine also the view is influenced by the other sites that one visits. My exp is this is less tolerant of dissent and free speach.
I never have trouble at "Satans Servants" or ""Overthrow the World" website forums.
I always get a chuckle from the;
I (insert name) will no longer be a part of this bulletin board. I will no longer respond to personal attacks blah blah blah, cry cry cry,
Cheers

"however there is a grain" Not much of a grain of truth but sure is a wheel borrow full of bull crap.
"Compared to other sites..." LOL what! you can't be serious! The only sites less moderated than this place are anarchist forums run by angry pimply faced 15 year olds and Usenet news.
"cant blame the whiners..." Get serious - dictators! Slight over exaggeration don't you think LOL
