Oil V's Varnish on doors?
I have had a set of 5 hardwood cupboard doors made for my understairs storage area and are esigned to be a feature in a large open plan living area. At the moment they are a raw timber finish. Diagonally opposite I have had a pair of French doors made from recycled oregon for the laundry bathroom, they are also in a raw timber finish. The other doors in this area are of a dark finish and oldeer style. We restored a pair of 2400mm high Spanish style french entrance door and a similar size pair for the master bedroom.
Now my question is do we stain the doors to the right colour to be similar to the existing doors and then apply some coats of matt finish varnish, or, do we apply stain and then oil?
What are the advantages or disadvantages of both methods?
Thanks Shane
