    Default Louvres in roof

I am building a large east/south facing deck with a roof - 4.5m deep. It gets a wonderful morning sun in winter, but unfortunately blocks the warmth from the house. In summer however it is perfect for blocking the morning heat (Brisbane). The roof will probably be the foam core sandwich panel as it can cover the span without support and is not far off the cost of roof/frame/insulation/lining.

I have seen some big panel type louvres advertised here and there that I could open in winter to let the sunlight in, but close in summer. When I got a quote a 2.5mx4.5m panel was $12,000. The whole roof is only $7000 for sandwich panel. Ouch. Has anyone seen any more cost effective alternates to let the winter sun in, but block the summer heat?

I know it's a "roofing" discussion, but this tends to be where the "deck" discussions end up.

    Thanx
    Paul

Sorry I can't be of any help regarding you question. I'm interested to know if the louvre roof you are talking about is something like the vergola?

I was hoping to have these installed over a balcony and deck we are building, but seems it may be prohibitively expensive...

I'll be watching this space for other recommendations

That's the type of thing. Seems to be a few brands kicking round. I only have one quote so far.

Spanline actually make two styles of opening roofs. One is about $900.00 M2 and the other is about $1000.00 M2.
