Staining timber windows
I have just had the Meranti windows installed into our new house and figured I had best seal the exterior prompt.
I was sold some Feast Watson Weatherproof as I was told this was the only stain to offer UV protection for un-pigmented timber. Is this correct?
I was also told to apply 1-2 coats. Not bothering to look at the can until I get home I noticed it said 4-6 coats for exterior. Should I do one or the other or anywhere in between?

this is an old post and its probably a bit late, but if you don't want continuing regular maintenance do not use a clear finish outside. I often got asked for clear external finishes by my clients and refused to advise in favour.
Then I had the option to try some on my own place in a very exposed location. I used it as a trial with differing products. Recoating was required in 2 years for all products, so my advice remains , don't do it.

Thanks for the reply Phils.
I posted the question yesterday so you reply may just be in time.
Would you recommend a tinted stain?
Cheers
