    Default Hi there from Sydney

Just introducing myself here. Based in Telopea, near Parramatta. I've been tinkering with wood for a long time but only recently started to try to learn to use my hand tools and take some care over what I make.

I started with the impulse purchase of a lathe on ebay. I might post more about that later. It's been rewarding learning to use it but I've hit some of its limitations.

Then I started looking at all the scraps of wood that I've kept over the years and realised that I've never actually made anything with them, at least nothing worthwhile. So I made a set of drawers for the workshop using as many scraps as I could - looks ugly but very functional and I learned a little bit about joining wood together.

I've now set out on the endless path of acquiring new (hand) tools and learning to use them to make real projects. My first is a little side-table using dovetail joints and some beautiful timber (rock maple and damanu) which came up quite nicely.

I'm now trying my hand at a small box and learning more as I get into the project.

Look forward to some useful advice and discussion on here - it's been a great resource already.

    Steve
