    The Japanese are a clever bunch, & if it is a Head Rest for a Human & it could be for either, D / A.

    Geishas used to sleep with their heads resting on something similar so they didn't disturb their elaborate hairdos. I'm pretty sure they were traditionally carved from solid rather than folding items but it looks like it would do the job. This isn't pretty enough to be one though.

    Is it a folding stool for a doll, or a form of display stand?

    It is carved/cut from one piece of wood

    I have a few books around here,, but most are

    Hi guys,
    All is reviled,,,, and the prize goes to..........
    I think manana got it first it is a pillow
    An ancient chinese folding pillow
    It was given to me by our neighbours father as
    a gift,,, I had given him a camphour bowl i had made
    recently , when he was visiting from china
    It is very old and made from one piece of wood
    very clever i thought, but not very comfortable
    Oooopppppsss forgot to post piccies!!!!!!!!!!!
