Hi all
I have decided to build my own garden shed since I found out that a 6m x 3m colourbond one would cost me $1900. I want to build one using timber frame and pine tongue and groove planks for wall covering. I estimate the whole job to cost under $1500. Is there any one who may have done a similar project? Iam worried that pine tongue and groove planks are not a good idea.Any tips and hints would be much appreciated.
6x3 is a single garage.
$1500 sounds awfully cheap for materials for something that size.
As for raw pine outside, I wouldn't. Have a look at the various types of external cladding just for this purpose.

I wouldnt use untreated pine outside, would be better to use hardiplank.(prob cheaper to)
Why not buy 2 3x3m garden kits sheds and join them together?
Pine t&g is unsuitable for cladding
Untreated pine is only suitable indoors
Treated pine is less likely to decay but it will still expand & contract significantly when it is wet or dry. You could expect 120mm wide board to move by 6mm between wet and dry conditions. So T&G won't work.
You could use horizontal weatherboards (cedar or baltic pine)
or vertical treated pine palings (if you can get long enough ones)

I can get a mid-range quality i.e. zincalume[sp?], 6m x 4m garden shed 2.7 m high for around $2000, double doors extra.

I think under 2 grand for a 6x3 is pretty reasonable. If you want to build one however, you could consider cladding like Weathertex boards. They look good, don't rot or warp and you paint them any colour you like, just like normal weatherboards. Like the others who have posted, I'd be surprised if you could do it under the colourbond price however.
thanks for the advice guys. :) I will focus on using hardiplank. Might check out some of the local auctions.I still beleive I can put it together for around $1500. If it blows out, atleast I can say I built it from scratch.

I've built my shed frame using 75x35's i bought at bunnings ( $198.00 )
Cladding will cost me $605.00. Still have the trussers to put together.
Roofing,guthers and so on.
All is on target:rolleyes: , even though the coucil slugged me $522.00 for approval.:mad:
Starting the slab next week.
Wow - I checked with my council when i built mine, and no approval was required at all.
My 6x3 cost <$900 as a kitset, so you must be looking at some expensive sheds. (Granted it is only galv, not colourbond, but the money saved got spent inside on toys).
Poured the slab for a 4m x 4m extension last weekend to what is a very tiny shed. Somehow after frame, iron, flashing, gutters etc have all been added up I would be very surprised if it works out cheaper than a kit. In this case a shop built will not work with the existing building, all 3.6 x 2.7 of it. The steel buying power of the kit builders gives them a very good cost advantage.
