Finish on Vic Ash wardrobes

I've installed Vic Ash wardrobes in our master bedroom. Now have to finish it off.

We like the lighter Vic Ash color, so will go with a light stain.

But which product(s) would you recommend? Wattyl have a dual purpose stain / estapol product...

And what is 'traditional' for this type of timber wardrobe - matt, stain or gloss?

I just want to make sure the timber is protected properly.

You might have better luck if you post in the FINISHING section.
There's a thread here on combination varnish/stain and I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons given in the thread.
