Laying New Foundation for a Laundry
I am in process of building a laundry out in the backyard attached to the back of existing double garage which would also be converted into a granny flat.
My question is what preparations are necessary to build a brand new laundry. I intend to do it myself and little uncertain about laying the foundation. If I could have some tips from you the foundation requirement, I will be grateful.

First part of the preparation would be to get plans and a building permit.

As tools said there is no point doing this any other way than legally. You will need plumbing and drainage work, and all the routine inspections for footings and framing.
Best approach the council first and ask them what you can do. Set up a meeting with the duty planner and then submit a development application based on what they say you need.
The footing details would probably be slab on ground, with termite protection for the seam joining to the garage slab. The slab would be designed using AS 2870.
Try Peter Clarkson's site, Ausdesign. It is really good.

Footings will depend on type of construction (block, brick veneer, double brick, timber frame, slab on ground, timber or steel framed flooring) soil type and bearing etc etc etc. Best way, as Tools has pointed out, is to get some plans prepared which will take these and many other factors into consideration.
