Default Red cedar table - Maintenance and care

I spend so much time on restoring furniture I have neglected to sort out maintenance and care. This out new red dining table and I'm looking for advice on the cleaning and protection of it. It is in a room with little sun as the glass doors have 10 ft covered verandas. SWMBO will be putting a protector on it but I would like to clean and protect for exposure to cat feet and fur . I want to make sure I do the right thing with the edges and avoid any damage to the veneer. Cheers

If you are going to have cat feet on the table then all I can think of is to have a clear plastic over the top of the table. It is about half a millimeter thick and is giving some protection to the surface.

We have one of these on top of our table that our 2.5 year old son loves to bang his spoon on, instead of using the spoon in a traditional method of eating.
