My cutting boards - Version # 1
Hello from the middle of the USA (Kansas). I have made a few posts in the Scale Modelling Forum, but now I thought I would visit this forum.
I have made a lot of cutting boards over the years - what I call working boards to be used daily. Lately I have been making some that are a little more decorative. These are to be used to set a hot dish on at the table or just to look at.
This set of three is called Expansion (approx. 305mm x 356mm), Convergence (approx. 229mm x 280mm) and Combination (approx. 229mm x 229mm). These are made from black walnut, cherry and maple. They are soaked in mineral oil and later finished with a wipe on poly.
The names of the boards kind of describes them. The Expansion starts out as smaller blocks on the outside and the blocks grow larger as they go towards the center.
The Convergence is just the opposite. The blocks start out large on the edges and become smaller as they approach the center.
The Combination is made up of scraps left over from making the other two.
In all cases they are end grain boards.
Your comments, both pro and con, are welcome.
Cheers,

I like them. I'm making a few of those as well with some more decorative appearance and yours inspire me some more.
Some description of how you did the right one would be appreciated.
Peter.

The first one is almost hypnotic. If you look to the side of the monitor it looks like a circle, is that the case when you are holding it?

They are really nice.
I like them a lot, especially the 3rd one.
SteveThe fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.

Thanks to all for the kind comments. I have attached three pictures that show how I prepared and cut the segments for the two main boards. As noted before, the last one was made up from leftovers of the first two (I hate to waste anything).
If these pictures don't answer all of your questions, let me know and I will see if I can help out.

Nice looking boards
Is that a book that your referencing off? If so what's it called? I've been trying to find information on how to make boards like yours.
Thanks,
Andy

I am not sure what you mean about a book???
The pictures of the steps involved in making the boards are not from a book. I design my boards on a CAD program and the pictures of the steps involved are ones that I made on the CAD program to answer questions from others that have seen the boards and wanted to see how I did it.
I thought that showing these would be of intrest to anyone here who wants to give it a go (give it a go - is that how you say it?)

Thanks for posting the pics and the CAD work, it is very impressive - lots of lessons for us there, especially with the detail planning required. Doesn't look as easy as it sounds, but I am going to give it a go
