We have purchased a house with an existing treated pine deck. The structure and handrails are all solid, its the floorboards that are goners. Treated pine 65mm wide grooves up and no cover. In short I went to a pub in Wiseman ferry and they recently built a nice outdoor area all in hardwood boards 140x19. I am not sure what type of wood it is, light red in colour yet I noticed that they have a slight cupping problem despite the fact that they screwed them down with 14 gage SS batten screw.

I would like to replace the pine boards with wide hardwood boards. Will be checking auctions for a deal since I will need some 600 meters (15m x 5) and probably choose Spotted Gum in 130/5x19 unless I find a good deal in Merbau.

I have two questions.
One, since I want the wider boards, I was thinking in cutting a groove with the saw along the centre of the board, say 7/8mm deep (?) to avoid cupping. Has anyone done this?

Two, I would like to go with hidden fasteners, (definitely not with 14g batten screws) and checking your post here, there was not much consensus on which one to use.
I found this one here http://www.thedeckking.com.au/produc...cealed-fixings
Unfortunately the site and others with the same product are very poor and you can not even see the thing clearly, let alone some technical info.

Thanking you in advance and have a wonderful Christmas
Marc
