DIY Ducted A/C
I've just bought a small 3 bedroom weatherboard home with no insulation, and i am told by the previous owners that it gets very cold in winter and hot in summer. I plan to knock down and rebuild in the next 5 years, so i don't want to spend huge $$$ on heating/cooling.
I'm very much a DIY kinda guy, and came up with the following idea which i'd like some feedback on.
Purchase the most powerful reverse cycle window a/c i can run off a 15A powerpoint, and install it under the house (timber floor suspended on piers with approx 500mm clearance). Use insulated a/c ducting to seal the front of the a/c so that all the air is directed into the ducting. From there, i can use a series of elbows/ducts to distribute the air to each room in the house from vents in the floor.
If i keep the diameter of the ducting small, then i figure the a/c should have enough grunt to push the air through.
A bit dodgy, but it may just work and i could have ducted a/c for under $1k
Thoughts?
