G'Day from East Victoria Park, Perth WA
Hi there
I am just starting out in my woodworking journey and figure the best place to start researching is an active online forum like this.
My main interest lies in using recycled timber to build furniture pieces, with particular interest in using Jarrah taken from old houses that are being knocked down or restored here in Perth. I have already saved what I think are some incredible pieces of wood from the site skip, I just need some skills to turn them into something new.
I am thinking of signing up to one of the courses at the Perth woodworking school in Belmont, so would be great to hear from anyone who has attended for some feedback.
Look forward to using and (with time) contributing to this site.
Cheers

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum, malt shovel.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork..
Cheers crowie

Thanks all,
malt_shovel refers to my other hobby, being amateur beer brewing.
I managed to find a couple of second hand tools for sale. A Pope-Falcon F6 and an old Stanley smoothing plane
I have ripped a few strips off a long length of old jarrah that was sitting outside for donkeys years, and the guts of it looks good, so it may become my "training" length.
I need to get some skills with hand tools before i butcher some decent wood for a project. Feels like I am back at high school!
Cheers
