    Default What floats your boat?

    Hey there,
I was thinking about a recent thread regarding pet hates, and while I'll acknowledge there's something about getting it all off your chest, it can be a bit of a downer to concentrate on the negatives!! So in the interest of balance (Zen man..!) I think we should look at what gets you going, what excites you, what floats your boat!?
Me personally, I like it when a chisel or gouge I've just sharpened actually works better. I mean really, noticeably, s l i c e s. I like early mornings in spring when there's a nip in the air but the sun promises a warm day. I really like it when a plan comes together, like yesterday with my sliding metal assembly. And I especially like it the way beer and blues music socket together like...like....like a neat cut m&t. Sit back in the shed with some Hound Dog Taylor and XXXX!!

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

    Good one Andy!

    Woodie stuff first (naturally!):
    • The fine swish of a plane blade through hard Aussie timber
    • The 'snick' of a chisel cutting a joint
    • The sense of achievement when some joinery comes together just as you'd hoped it would (an event less frequent than I'd like )
    Other stuff:
    • The taste and aroma of a fine wine
    • A great meal
    • A good lie-in
    • Being told (at work) that, "Wow! you know your stuff" (another infrequent event )
    • Watching a pretty lady saunter by...
    • Being my own boss at home!
    Heaps more too

That feeling of accomplishment after a hard days work, with sore muscles fed by lamp chops, a beer even (a beer BEFORE a feeds best), feet up.... bit of nooky latters nice if I'm lucky (fat chance that she'll be in a good mood too though. )

That confidence in knowing whats going to happen,,,,and not being surprised when it does work out, so I don't have to pretend I meant to do it. Blissful stuff that.

I really enjoy staring up at the stars in the dead of the night having a leak...clean air, deep breathes, no noise....sounds funny, but it have to be one of the most pleasurable and relaxing experiences that.....don't laugh, I'm serious,,,,, AHHHHHHhhhhhhh,,,oh ,ahhhhh .....

Watching my two daughters grow up, I just love it when they get to figure something out for themselves, makes my week!

I know it won't last forever, the eldest is only a year away from becoming a teenager, so I'll love it while it lasts!

Otherwise, I really have to admit, I love showing my dungeon workshop to people in person, they see a hatch in the floor of the parking area, and when they go down there and see what I've done and the tools etc down there, the eyes just pop, a neat thing, I feel better about all the work I've done down there.

I also love getting a chance to just set on the sofa with my wife and watch something of interest to both of us on the TV, don't happen much, but sometimes.

Otherwise, after a good BBQ party, with good friends, sitting around outside on the rooftop sun deck, telling lies with good buddies, enjoying that last fine tumbler of 40 year old single malt, while enjoying a fine cigar.... yep, that is good!

    Cheers!
