Was agog when I turned on the TV this afternoon just after the broadcast started I think.

Let's put it down to the reporters being right on the scene when the disaster happened, some of the media were obviously in shock.
Any forum members in Christchurch? Hope you're OK.
Nowhere near as much damage North of the Waimakariri River this time. Things fell off shelves but we didn't lose power or water.
The City is a mess.We don't know how lucky we are......

It's devastating, I have family over there but they are all okay.
I just keep picturing all the beautiful old buildings, terrible.

When I saw on the news that the Cathedral spire had toppled I wondered whether folk would take it as a sign; but then the Catholic cathedral also got damaged .... so that's pretty even handed ;-}Cheers, Ern

I recall listening to an interview with the Chancellor of Canterbury Uni., a Maori if that's relevant, and he said that governments are slow moving and have a short memory. Spot on.
