    Default G'day from New Zealand

    Hi my name is Mark.

I've been reading the forums for a while now and decided I better introduce myself.

I live in Hamilton in the North Island of New Zealand.

    I'm 51.

I trained as a Fitter, Turner Machinist many years ago. I've been a shift engineer at a power station for the last 27 years.

Married to a shed weary but understanding wife and have two great kids.

I'm actively interested in woodworking and metal working. I find my engineering training helpful with woodworking but sometimes get myself into trouble with precision fits in wood. I learned wood doesn't like to be too constrained.

I have a small (it's always too small) space in my garage where I manage to fit a joiner, planner, bandsaw and tablesaw and drillpress. All on wheels.

I've just recently bought a Chinese engineering lathe for my metalwork and managed to find some room to fit this in although it won't be going on wheels.

Unfortunately I've been unable to find such an active and lively set of forums in NZ so I hope you don't mind me participating in this site.

    Cheers for now

    Mark

G'Day & Welcome "Down Under" Mark or should I say the Big Island,
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork & the new lathe.
Cheers for "On Top Down Under" Crowie

Mark sounds like you have lots to share in knowledge also. Crowie has not mentioned shed photos are drool time or rrfl time for us.

Good to see another 7th state Australia join up.

Oh just don't forget its also customary to point out NZ'd has won again at Footy, Union and Cricket.

    Thanks for the welcome

I thought I better not mention any sports related items for fear sheep might become the topic.

I'll post up some pictures of the new lathe in the Metalwork forum. That'll be good for a laugh as it's got some pretty well made parts but shocking finishing. Ah well...you get what you pay for!

    Cheers

    Mark
