Hi from Hastings, Vic
Hi All,
Ben from Hastings. Very amateur woodworker of the past few years. Slowly putting together some equipment of varying degrees of quality (let's just say Aldi has a few dollars from me) and enjoy getting into the shed when work (sailor) and my daughter (15 months) allows it. Have completed a few basic projects including my workbench, shoe rack and a few structural, though not load bearing, walls and recesses during my renovation.
Look forward to reading and possibly even contributing some useful info in the future.

Welcome to the forum. You are starting as most people start basic set of tools. I still have them and use them when needed. But I must say not from Aldi as yet.

Hi Ben, welcome. I'm in Hastings too, you should come and introduce yourself at work, I'm upstairs from Millies in the Photographic section.

Welcome Ben, I was a frequent visitor to Hastings until I sold my sail boat a few months ago.

Nothing wrong with Aldi's as a place to start or for the tool that gets limited use. When you know what you use regularly then spend the dough for quality. Welcome.

Disagree.
One is the task, two is the tool, three is your technique.
A novice woodworker has trouble distinguishing btwn the three when there's a poor result.
Buy decent tools; it's simpler and cheaper in the long run.Cheers, Ern
