    Default G'day from John Butler

    G'day Guys and Girls,
My names John and I like to play in the shed.
I'm creative with many things both old and new. I paint both pictures and houses.
I like to gain knowledge from where ever and who ever has it to offer.
I'm in the process of rebuilding a wooden boat in which I'd like to take my son to far away places and teach him about peace and woodwork and how to catch a fish..... but that's another story....right now I'd appreciate some help to build a windscreen for the old girl. Maybe someone in here has an idea or two to help me get started and there could even be a fishing trip in it for you..... so what say ye me hearty's

    Thumbs up

G'day John and welcome to cyber heaven.

I think we all like to play in the shed so you've joined the right crew.

Lots to see and learn here and a great place to share info and make friends.

    Enjoy.

    Thanks for the welcome guys.
Actually now that you mention it there does happen to be a John Butler Trio here which includes my wife Claire, my son Jesse and me.
Could be a name for the boat in there somewhere.....

G'day and welcome John - I'm sure someone will advise you soon, but I suggest a photo, or two, of the boat will help decide the correct approach.

Are you asking for suggestions to replace the existing forward screen or to add some thing above the cabin?

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'll try get some photos of her before I started work on her.
Masoth, what I'm looking for is suggestions or pictures of how to start making a windscreen to go on top just forward of the steering wheel to keep the sea spray at bay then I will look at putting a bimini (canvas cover) from the windscreen to the stern.
As you can see from the photo the cabin curves over so there is the challenge of bending the timber to start with. There are three holes in the ceiling just forward of the starboard light (one in the centre and one on either side of the boat) to which looks like a screen has been fitted before. I'd like to make it so I can remove it so it can fit in the Garage (there's about 6 inches between the top of the boat and the roof of garage) . I dont want to leave her outside after all the work that's been put into her...

Instead of removable a 'fold-down' may be better. There should be an idea of the height requirement on other boats, and I think it would not be very high (thinking of convertible cars, and older motorcycles). Would you reckon on full width, or only forward of the wheel?

The possibility of fold down has occured to me although if it had side panels on it that would mean putting hinges on them as well... the windscreen needs to be full width of boat....and considering the bend in the roof the screen needs to be about 500mm high with the bottom of screen following contour of roof and the top being straight across ... it's about 1500mm across and the side panels will be triangular in shape and about 400mm along bottom edge

Hello John kelly, welcome. If given a chance I could live in the shed itself. Working with wood is a lot of fun and I work with wood and bamboo.
