iwata or star spray gun?

Hi All
New to spraying, only limited use of a s770 at tafe. Wanting to buy first spray gun i've been looking at suction guns iwata new 77 from $157-175 or the stars770 from $95 to 160. guess my budget is up to $200 any other guns worth considering?
I'll be spraying stylewood on furniture.
Am i going to get a much better gun with the iwata over the star? and assuming that a 1.8mm or 2mm tip is a good starting place for this type of work?

Iwata is by far superior.Yes the price difference is justified.

In that price range, see also the DeVilbiss SLG G620, SLG600 and the Airgunsa AZ3.

1.5 to 2.0mm tip for Wattyl Stylwood.

Gravity fed guns are the first choice of the spray industry these days.

Buy the best gun you can afford. Iwata and SATA are my preferred brands. Agree with MS that you want a gravity or, depending on your application, a pressure feed gun. Suction guns work well for low viscosity materials but they will not do well with high solids coatings.

there are thousands of star s770s out there doing good work ..... i own 2 ....... if you bthink you may only ever own 1 spray gun ...... well you arent very serious and you probably wont see the difference between the 770 and better guns ..... if you think you will own more than 1 gun ...... well the 770 will give you a very good idea of what you need ...... if you buy something better ..... you will be needing a gun for primers & sealers and the like.

the real question in my view is ....... should you be thinking of a HVLP gravity gun rather than full flow suction gun ...... i have 2 porter cable hvlp guns that are rebadged stars .... & i use them nore than the 770s .... way less overspray and more % product on the job ....... if you are spraying relatively coarse finishes that flow out well a more expensive gun will be wasted money ....... which is most timber finishes ........ if you are spraying high end opaques like automotive finishes and depending on a gloss off the gun .... maybe a more expensive gun is worth the money ....... first spray gun ..... you can do a lot worse than a Star S770 or the HVLP gravity equavalent ...... spend the extra $100 on setting up a second reciever for your compressor.
