    Default New From Caboolture

Hi Everyone, this is my first post, great to find such a great online community for woodworking and metal working. My interest in wood turning came from my father who has done wood turning on his own built lathe like 40 years ago, he still has the lathe and I still use it to this day pictured below. Also pictured is a project for a fairly large bowl. I generally use camphor laurel as I really like the grain. pic1.jpg pic2.jpgI also have a new project and wanted to ask if anyone could assist me. I need to turn a piece of wood on a 22mm od, 19mm ID stainless tube. I have recently read the forum on making pens turned from wood and understand the best method of inserting the tube to a blank and epoxying it however my tube that I will be inserting is 100mm long (not an issue) but it is threaded on the id both ends. I believe you can get an expandable mandrel can anyone suggest what could be used so I will not damage the threads on both ends, I am kind of lost as to how I might do this or if there is a mandrel for both the live centre and drive centre that I can use to achieve the desired result. I If someone could reference the best type of mandrel to use in this instance it would help me a lot. Thanks in advane. Paul

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Paul".
What a huge bowl you are turning, you should find a few forum members on the Northern side of Brisbane & the Sunshine coast & Maleny areas.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you keep showing off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork.
    Cheers crowie

PS - You'll receive a lot more assistance for specific question by putting a new thread in the relative section.
