Jarrah burl
How do you go about purchasing a piece of burl, where best to buy from? And what constitutes a good piece. How much would one expect to pay i.e.what is a fair price. I have looked on gumtree but to be honest I don't know what is good or bad. Some have large cracks which I assume is a poorer quality but I just don't know. My wife wants me to make a clock for her. Any help greatly appreciated.

W.A. forestry have a big auction every year where a lot of Jarrah burl gets sold. Prices about $2-4 per kilo.

Not WA forestry, but Forest Products Commission, in Harvey. The auctions are held every 3 months and advertised through Ross's Auctions. As for price, depend on number of buyers, weather, interest in burl or logs and all sorts of factors. I have been going for years, sometimes there are great bargains, sometimes there are not
