spray can vs spray gun - ease of use
I thinking of getting a compressor/spray gun (low pressure) but I am having second thoughts wether I should get it or not.
I am using a can of spray on Estapol and finding it quite hard not to get runs.
Is a compressor/spray gun easier to use?
I would mainly be spray lacquer... most likely Estapol.
I am also interested in why ppl have such interesting stuff to say about estapol
Cheers

JC,
Answer to your first question - No; wont help. (wet flim thickness is too high)
Getting runs is due to poor technique (sorry). Try to improve your technique by experimenting with some cheep lacquer paint spray cans from autoshops on some scrap / paper.
Welcome & goodluck.

Theva

I have used spray cans and gotten very good results on things that would basically be too much of a pain to go to the effort of loading, using and cleaning a gun.
Without meaning this as a put down, if you can't use a spray can without getting runs, you wont be happy with a proper spray setup either.
I am going to disagree with Theva though, and suggest you pick one of the better brands, Wattyl or Cabot's, and learn to use that well.Semtex fixes all

Just a comment re cheap spray cans (and cheap guns). With probably poor jets etc they will not lay down an even layer and make the job of getting a good result even more difficult.

Well... looks like more practice for me
I used spray can Espatol on veneer before and it was pretty easy... didn't get runs...
now using on Enamel gloss black paint... it's a different story.
Is estapol not good on enamel paint?

you are in for more trouble than flash gordon mixing paint families.
you will have adhesion problems and other sins.
if you want a cleer finish over black using estapol as the top coat try berger jet dry black as the colour. it is poly eurathane same family as the estapol. why you would want to i don't know.
you also will have a greater tendancy to run in following coats any way.
lighter applications i would sugest.
