Saw Sharpening Workshop
Sunday, 24 May 2009
When: 9.30am to 3.30pm
Where: Asquith Boys High School Workshops, Jersey Road, Asquith.
Good saw sharpeners are rare. The answer is to learn how to sharpen your own saws
All basic tools are provided but you need sharp files. Files and some old saw-sets will be on sale, as will some "practice" saws.
Bring a blunt saw; it will be sharp when you leave!
This is a hands-on activity in a fully equipped workshop.
Each person will have his or her own bench space and vice.
Maximum number of participants is 15.
Please bring your saws for sharpening.
You will:
- joint your saw.
- use a saw file to shape the teeth.
- use a saw set to set the teeth.
- sharpen the teeth using a saw file.
- dress the sides of the teeth with a file or oilstone.
Please note that saw vises and sawsets will be available for use:
- A range of saw sharpening files will be for sale [You may purchase necessary files before the workshop at most hardware retailers. For a rip or cross cut saw suggest a 6" slim taper]
- Please bring your saws for sharpening.
- For practice, rip and crosscut saws with 4-6 tpi are most appropriate.
If you are looking to buy a saw set, look for the following brands: Eclipse 77, Stanley 42 range, Disston 24. Second hand is the best choice.
Cost: $20 for financial TTTG members or $40 for non members.
If you have any queries drop a message in here, or ring Peter Evans on 0419 245 699.
Look forward to seeing you there
