The Sunday Market.
Hi All,
2 Weeks ago I bought a big Tennon Saw??, 22½ in. x 5 in.
Blade is 18 x 4¼.
On the Wooden Handle, it has a Brass Plate on either side that has 4 bolts & round split nuts. Plate has an inscribed " Clay Pipe ", & below that a No.2288, on both sides.
Saw has markings of " Williams Smithfield London ", on the Backing Plate?? it has what I wood call the " Sellers Name " in very small print " Gillon Cutler, Sydney ".
Looks more like a G than a C.
The Handle has a fair few Borer holes, but is still in good nick, & has 1 small piece of wood missing on the top part of the handle.
Williams & London have bigger print than Smithfield. It has 9 teeth to the inch.
Have had a look on Google, but I most likely have not searched the correct way, as there is nothing I could find.
Sorry I don't have the capabilities of doing Photos.
So does any one know anything about this saw.
The Punch line is, it cost me $1, couldn't get it out fast enough. So now to clean it up.Regards,
issatree.

What better than a butcher's saw to butcher some wood!
Out of curiosity, is it filed rip or crosscut?

I may have it wrong.
Hi to you both,
After looking at those sites, this Saw may have been a Meat Saw.
The only difference is in the Drawing, there are only 3 bolts, where mine has 4.
I'm not sure hiroller, but as I said it has 9 teeth to the inch, & next to no difference in the size of the teeth, compared to other similar Saws I have.
Thank you both for your help, but I wood like to get a few more responses, but I think it makes sense that you are both on the right track.Regards,
issatree.
