hey im a beginner chainsaw carving artist. I live in Lake, Michigan USA! I hope to find as much info as possible to help me with carving my first sculpture!

Always admire the skill of chainsaw carvers. Once watched a lady carver over here produce a magnificent eagle in pretty short order. Seemed as though she ha a special bar on her lightweight saw.

I love pruning with my chainsaw. Saves heaps of time except for the boganvillea, they have a habit of biting back!! (Da misses barely asks me to prune anymore!!!)

You definitely need a shorter bar. Seek some advice from Stihl (et al) of the type of chain/teeth to use as there are some choices and for carving there is always one better for this than others.. right tools for the job so to speak. Some chainsaw models rev higher than others which affects your carving... but you probably know this already. There was a guy giving a demo at our local show last year and he could rattle off all the specs of his saw and why he set it up so - carving. If you strike problems, I can speak to a mate who works with chainsaws but I only see Dale every few months.

Welcome. I'm not a chainsaw user, but it's fascinating to see how to use a chainsaw for carving, as I saw it with a demonstration last year.

Hi and welcome to the site.

I would think chainsaw carving would be easy.
For instance, if you want to carve an elephant out of
wood there is very little to it.

Step 1. Get a big block of wood.
Step 2. Start your chainsaw.
Step 3. Simply cut off the bits that don't look like an elephant.
