    Question Blackwood Stain

    G'Day All,
I am about to start the build on a grand father clock out of Tas Blackwood.
Now my Question-- I havn't used stain on good timber before but I want to obtain an even color across the whole clock. I have picked the closest color and grain match I can in the timber and was wondering should I use stain for a better match? Or am I still going to end up with some areas lighter than others.
    Any Advice appreciated !
    catch ya

    G'day Andrew

I would not stain timber and definitely not Tas Blackwood. It is too beautiful to be ruined. Just let nature do its job.

The oldtimers used to do it to match colour vatiations in the timber, its a matter of taste.

    Thanks Fellas,
Tried some Stain on a jointed scrap today, Matched the color pretty well,
I will have to match the grain fairly well as I want to hide the joins in the timber as much as posible and the stain highlights the grain diferences dramatically.
Machined up about 20 meters of 150 x 19 today and been trying to match color and grain as much as posible .
Every time I look at the timber I seem to find a better match than the time before.
    Catch ya
