    Default Blackberry Mobile from ebay

I bought a Blackberry Torch mobile phone on ebay.
It was supposed to be brand new, unused and unlocked.
Phone is Ok but when I switch on and off it says "Virgin Media"
Have I bought a stolen, used or locked phone that has been cracked?
It was not in a sealed package, the excuse was that they used a generic package that was stronger.
Do I need to be concerned?

My old phone, a Sharp and my wife's Nokia both came from Vodafone and are unlocked. When they start up they both display the Vodafone logo on the screen even though we are on another network. The Blackberry 9300 I have now just displays 'Blackberry' when you turn it on. I think it is unlocked because it works with Optus, Vodafone and 2 Degrees (New Zealand) sims.

If you phone is displaying Virgin Media it is probably one of thier phones from the UK.

Does it work on the network you intend it to work on?

Blackberrys can be set for different GSM bands, a Blackberry that works on the Telstra network won't necessarily wotk on Optus as they have different GSM frequencies. Some Blackberries will work on both.

If it displays Virgin Media it was obviously meant for the UK market.

I don't know, I haven't received my sim card yet.

Yes, and obviously not unopened, unused, unlocked straight from the manufacturer as implied. It was shipped from Hong Kong in generic packaging..
I was worried about it either being stolen or the code cracked to unlock it. After all we are talking about the World Capital of illegally produced IT.
Not happy at all and they will know about it too.
