Bowls: Finished and WIP
Here's a few bowls I've made or am in the process of making.
Is there a special thread for WIP? I couldn't find one but it's not much of a process to make a bowl so, probably not worth a WIP thread on it's own.
These are all made from what I call "nubs" and I usually let the shape of the wood dictate how I carve them. Nubs are those bulges where a branch is starting to grow.
This first 3 pics are a WIP of an unknown type of gum. The next 2 are another bowl WIP. Unknown wood.
Then there's a camphor bowl with the bark left on. And possibly a red gum bowl.
I carve the bowl out with an arbotec or mini and finish with file sander and hand sanding. the two finished bowls just have a coat of linseed oil, but I'm not satisified with the finish. I used linseed so they could be used for food if desired. I have since discovered the ubeaut food oil, which I'll try next time.

Using these was one of my gunna jobs. Nice to see how they turn out. Thanks for sharing.
Tim. A man of measurable mess.

No worries Tim.
I love working with these "nubs" because of the interesting deformities you find inside.
I haven't been woodworking lately, but am waiting for the concrete slab to dry so I can start erecting my shed and then I'll update with some more progress. I've had to work n the verandah, creating a lot of mess. I can't wait to have a shed to work in!
