bentwood seats
A first time poster!
Can someone tell me if they know anyone in Sydney who can supply, to a once in a while chair restorer, the pressed patterned seats commonly found on the old bentwood chairs. I assume they are pressed into soft plywood. I have restored the ones that originally took rattan cane, but often come across those that were never woven but had the plywood seat or where the plywood has been nailed over the holes.
I don't have either the tools nor sufficient skills to try and press my own so I need an understanding plywood supplier.

Not Sydney but you can get them mail order from here in Brisbane.

I have used leather in the past, you can punch in hole patterns or tool your own design. Where did you get your rattan? I haven't been able to get any decent stuff for years.
Thanks for the link Mic, its a good one!

Sunray Cane at Terrey Hills in Sydney. They have sold me to me but only in large hanks (if that is the word) but it isn't their core business, so seem to be disappointed I don't buy the furniture.
I have had a response from Goods and Chattels in Brisbane about some "fibre" seats so might have a look at those for $39 each.
