    Default Victorian Pool Deck Regs

    The pool deck I've got to do is going to finish about 1400mm high so it'll need handrail or safety barrier etc.

    So I have a coupla questions

    Whats the minimum handrail height from the top of the deck?

    Whats the minimum going on steps (I'll use 170mm rises)?

    Handrail height min. 1000mm to landings etc - 865mm to steps.
    Tread min. 240mm max. 355mm

    you are buildinga deck around a pool ???????? The regs want ( i think _ cant recall exactly) either 1200 or 1350 high fence and the rules change when fences and split level decks come into account. Be very careful about this as you wouldnt want a floater to appear then have the police asking questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Council will have regs brochure for you ( probly on net) I recently built one and was surprised at number of dimensions etc that have to be taken into account BUT it was all commonsense and worth while. Sometimes these rules are a bit over the top but in this case I think not.

    My sincere apologies Bob. I've misread your post.
    If it is the actual 'safety fence' [ to keep young tackers out ] then the height is 1200 with a few other items such as rails, spacings, clearances from the fence etc.
    Gate latch height 1500.
    If its a safety rail just for the 1400 height within an enclosed pool area, then 1000

    how do you put a gate latch 1500 high if the fence is 1200 high?

    Oh dear, my conception of a "floater" is obviously tainted - I had a laughing fit thinking of calling the police in to deal with one until I realised what you meant! (yes, I have a pool and two young kids, but I can still laugh)

    This thread is very timely as i'm filling my newly erected pool and after connecting the pump and filter the deck is next, any one have any ideas for a feature to the deck like.................... um lets see a hatch in the deck where i can hide a esky you know that sort of thing ,lights ect ect ect

    There's also something about not having horizontal members close enough for kids to climb up and over the fence. The funny thing is that if it's on a farm somewhere, then it's likely to have a dam somewhere as well and they don't have to be fenced.
