wadkin JQ restoration
I've had a change of mind and decided to do this little sander instead of the LQ. I'm going to leave the LQ smeared in plus gas for a while. I got this from a foundry pattern shop in Bolton that was closing. I've had it a couple of years and its a lovely thing.
When I started stripping it I noticed it still has a lot of original wiring which is well past its best, the cloth was starting to drop to bits so its probably a good thing I chose this one.

CQ, LQ, JQ... they're all in the queue ("Q") .
I enjoy watching your rebuilds. I'm pulling up a chair (I'm also stealing the tag photo for the "extreme wadkinitus" thread ).

Better make that a pew rather than a chair Vann, there'll be a few of us watching.

Nice machine . I've never noticed one before . Looks like it would be a handy size compared to the space taking giant sanders .

Heres the cover for the trip box, I like to use paint stripper on something like this to protect any detail.
I think this paint job must have been in the late 70's early 80's. Wadkin brought out a 'supersaw' with literature of this colour.
What is a single phase preventor?
Its lost a couple of its corners, any ideas on how to fix. Maybe build up with braze and file?
I started remove the 8 layers of paint and it has done a great job of protecting the metal, no rust. I think the people casting at wadkin must of had a really good day because these casting are really nice with very little evidence of fettling. The surface is perfect for a paint finish.

All done. I had a nightmare with the starter and single phase preventor. Before I took this to bits everything worked fine but something must have happened whilst I was working on it. I took loads of pictures to refer back to. I replaced a couple of wires where the insulation was perished. Anyway would it heck play nice when all put back together. After 4 days of messing with it I gave in and installed a modern starter. I managed to use the original start / stop buttons which is good.
What to do next Hmmm

That's the sort of thing that would set me back months. I just wouldn't want to put modern gear in there. That's one of the joys of being a procrastinator - at least I will be when I get 'round to joining the a Procrastinators Club...
There you go - the LQ !!
Lovely job on the JQ.

I would love to start the LQ but its a major job. I've just received an RS to do for some one so I think that will be next.

I'm more than happy to watch your progress on an RS lathe. What size, 6" 8" or 10"?

Its a 6". The guy seems pretty serious because he had the big 'L' shaped tool rest cast and he wants me to find the carriage.
