Parliament hinge.
Hi All,
My first post, looks like a great community you have here.
Does anyone have experience fitting parliament hinges? We are building a strawbale house and with the thick walls the doors are set back about 90mm from the out side edge of house, and we would like the doors to open all the way so they can be latched back to the wall.
Also the doors are quiet heavy, made from recycled spotted gum perimeter and 6mm toughened glass double hung window inside that - with the weight we think soft close damper would be worthwhile as to not loose a childs finger!
Is it possible to fit a soft closer with the parliament hinge, or is the off set going to bugger up the geometry?
Any feed back would be appreciated.

G'day Dunks and welcome to the shed!!Great to have you here!!
Actually I thought parliament was a place for the unhinged!
Bit of a problem you have posed. I have seen heavy doors with soft close mechanisms that are
a bit like those double opening Blum hinges, just in reverse if you get what I mean.
Can't recall where, on state Gov. buildings I think. You might get onto people like Lincoln Sentry for help.
Do you have plenty of Gymea Lillies up your way?? They look pretty spectacular when in flower in the bush.

...yea gidday Dunks...doesn't that sound odd
Go right ahead with what you are proposing and treat/fit it like a normal exterior butt hinge.
A soft closer will work fine on the door too. Get a quality closer not an elcheapo from the green barn.
Check out some school doors if you can, as I've done a few ali glass doors with parliament hinges and closers.

parliament hinge
Hi Guys, I forgot to mention the main concern I have with fitting the soft closer is not being able to open the door back to the wall 180 degrees.
Cheers,
Dunks
