I am doing a couple of jobs at the moment that have similar issues.

Both floors are radiata, and both floors have areas which were covered by stuff other than finish which was in the bulk of the house - leaving rooms which have a darker tint than the rest of the area.

1. The first photos show an area where half the floor was covered with lino and glue (lighter area) and the other half was just carpet and underlay. I have 2 runs with both 36 grit and 60 grit - with 80 grit and 100 grit to come prior to orbital sanding.

Do you think these areas will merge closer in colour as I sand more? I am thinking if not I could stain one of the areas with a sharp line at the join to highlight the change rather than try and hide it?

2. The second photos show areas of random 'stains' which are coming through the boards as I sand them more - I have seen this before and I assume they are cause by spilt spirits/paints/cleaning product etc when the house was first getting built. I also assume that staining will not hide the patches either? Any explanations or suggestions?
