benefits of not using reveals on doors and windows

We are building a granny flat in the yard and have 2 big windows 315 h x 2400 long and a sliding door 1800 w. It is weathertex cladding, timber frame and gyprock.
The builder doesnt want to use reveals on all the aluminium windows and doors.
Can someone advise of the benefits (or not) of this? would it create a sleeker, smoother modern look not using them?
