    Default Minwax Wipe-On Poly

    G'day all,

On one of my rare excursions to the "big green box" yesterday I thought I would give the Minwax Wipe-On Poly a go after reading the comments by the forum members.

I finally found it - almost out of sight and out of reach even for a bloke who is 6'2. I grabbed the can and was prepared to pay the almost $30 until I saw the top of the can - it was covered in rust.

Figured it was oldish stock and I grabbed another [on my tip toes] - same result - I checked the other 2 I could see and reach but all were the same.

    Not exactly confidence inspiring.

    My long winded question[s] is/are

"What is the shelf life of Minwax?"

"Was this a one off occurrence or is it regarded as normal?"

"Is the rust really a concern or am I just being fussy?"

    Regards,
    Bob

    Default Minwax

I have purchased minwax at two different times.
It is dusty like you said,so they dont sell much.
Even had 2 different tops. One was a metal screw top.
The other was a black plastic flip open type.
    Both cans worked fine
The only thing I noticed was when can gets half empty it thickens up a bit.
This is the same as any paint etc.

If I were you, I'd buy both cans, just to be sure!

I bought a tin of newer stock recently with a child proof cap. I couldn't get the lid off. Ratchety thing inside the capp wasn't catching. So took it back to get one I could get the lid off. All of the child proof caps were like that. Ended up getting an older stock on with the black flip top lid.

After calming down and having a beer/coffee/cigarett or whatever you relaxiant is ,
Grab child proof cap with good multi grips squeeze just enough to grip and remove , using plyers and screwdriver remove inner section gently , throw outer bit in the bin and just use inner part

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll pick some up to try when I next visit the green box - could be a little while as they are not just next door
