Default Problem with photos from this site

I am having a problem viewing images placed on this site. Most times the thumbnails appear OK, but when clicked on nothing happens or a new window opens with a small square containing a red "x". Other times the first of a group of thumbnails appears followed by the small square and "x" to represent the missing images. On other occasions all is OK. Running XP on a Dell laptop via ADSL. Any clues????

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

G'day Bob - Have had a look and can't find a problem with permissions or anything else.

Can you see the pic below? If not what do you see? (the pic below is imbedded and not clickable)

Can you see the pic below? If so can you see the enlarged pic when you click on the one below? If not what do you see?

Does this only ever happen in the NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH WOODWORK forums or do you also get the same problem in any other forums from time to time?

Let me know what you see and post the url here of any posts that you can't see the pics in.

    Cheers - Neil.

Thanks for the reply Neil. Have no problem looking at the image and it opened in a new window when clicked on.

From memory, Claw Hammer's current project's first batch of images were visible as thumbnails, but would not open when clicked on. Subsequent batches of images in the same thread worked OK.

Derek had a thread on storage in his workshop. Once again from memory, the first entry had one image where the thumbnail was visible. Immediately after this entry was a second entry with multiple images that presented as a small square box containing an "x".

There was a third instance but it escapes me at the moment as to what it was about or who owned it.

I would have thought that if it were a setting on my system then it would affect all images in all threads the same way.

    Interesting!

Just remembered the third example. Clogger has a current thread that shows project images as well as two images of his workshop. These will not enlarge in a new window when clicked . Just opens a second window with the box and "x"

    G'day Bob,
I just checked those examples...(psst ..links would make it easier for us)...and they all work ok here.
I'll just go and check the Clogger's thread.

I just checked the 9 pics in Clogger's thread, and they all open in a new window and enlarge.
We need to have a look at your settings I think.

Hi Noel. Which settings are you interested in - IE? I doubt that it is Bitdefender (virus) or firewall (Windows)

    Mornin' Bob,
Being a Mac man, I'm not really familiar with windows stuff...I was thinking more along the lines of vBulletin settings.
I'll have a good look through your account to see if there is anything problematic there at all.

Noel - Checked Bobs acc and forum permissions last night, nothing out of the ordinary.

Bob - Would definitely help if you could give us the link (url) to the posts where you are having troubles. We could be searching for hours trying to find the ones you're talking about.

Not trying to be smart or rude but "from memory" really isn't good enough. We really need to have the exact post or at least the thread address and the post number. There are over 1.2 million posts and only a couple of administrators with a heap of stuff to do.

We want to help but you have to help us to help you.

    Cheers - Neil

Thanks guys - understand re the memory Neil. Now find that this problem exists with images in another internet based application. Looking more like a problem with my system. Don't understand why it only shows up with some images. However, the problem stays with same images in a cluster. Any help appreciated, but given that it is not forum particular I don't expect people to waste too much time on it. Thanks for current feedback.

I am also having trouble opening pictures.
I get a small box with a red X. Clicking on them does'nt do anything.
Right clicking gives a list of options but nothing happens there either.
Ive pasted a copy of a post on this site.
Can anyone throw some light on the problem.
    Keith.

Bob - Please post a url to a thread with post number so we can have a look at what you're not seeing. It is possible that there is nothing to see anyway. Sometimes pics are removed or put in wrong and don't show. It may not be a problem at your end.

BEKKY - Same answer. If the post you refer to is the one in your post. There is no pic, if it's post number 2 by Mulgabill that one is viewable and will re-size in a new screen. I have checked your registration and permissions and there are no problems that I can find.

Were you able to see the 2 pics that I posted above in this thread (post #2)?

    Cheers - Neil

Just a thought. The image in post #2 by Mulgabill is a .png and it is possible that your computers can't view a .png file, unlikely but possible.

If you find a graphic that won't show (box with X in it) hover your mouse over it and you should see the name of thew attachment eg (the one mentioned) is wwf.png if nothing shows try right a right click on it then on View Image Info and see what type of file it is.

This may be an answer but maybe not.

Currently playing with compatibility mode. Appears to be something to do with this. Can now see all images in both applications. Just need to work out what is going on as one application seems to need it turned on, and the other requires it to be off. Will post my findings.

No surprise really - nothing to do with compatibility mode. Just happened to make problem images visible at the same time as I was testing. The problem is no longer consistent. That is, images that could previously be viewed by clicking on thumbnail MAY not be visible next time round, and images that could not be seen MAY be seen the next time. Whilst I will continue to play, I am at a loss as to where to start looking next. Neil, because the problem is not static I don't believe that a URL is going to help.
