50's double hung windows repair
I got a rude shock when I rang to to find out a replacement sash ($450 each) for my windows due to rot. I am going through the painstaking process of burning off the paint sanding and coating with DWD window stain/laquer.
The frame is only half gone on one panel and 2 sides on another. Initially I thought to make and shape myself with success, but have possibly chosen the wrong timber to make and shape.
My question is what timber are these made of? The photo shows one I have done and the frame for the other undergoing repair. I will post another photo soon closer up.
I have made up a piece of timber out of Oregen, as the grain looks right. But the timber doesnt look like cedar, if it is neither of these timbers what else did they make windows out of in the 50's.
