Default BMI Quicky Stainless Steel Tape Measure

I carry a tape measure around me whenever I go to a hardware, plumbing or in fact almost any store, however they are always slightly bulky and even when one removes everything you can, they still seem to have edges and/or bits of plastic or metal that catch on clothing, not to mention their weight in ones pocket.

Plus, when walking around doing a job I find I’m carrying my little 2m plastic housed tape all of the time in my apron pocket.

It was suggested to me, that maybe a BMI Quicky could be what I need. Fine, except whenever I hit an English speaking site they show combination metric / imperial measures. I only wish for a metric tape.

Does anyone out there have one of these tape measures, with a suggestion of whether it is as good as it seems to be, or is it a quirk or fad item?

More importantly, is it a metric or combination tape?

I have seen that site and noted that it's with free delivery, which is fine, but according to the importer/distributor, the retail price is $9.90.

I prefer to try and find one local where I can walk into a store and save $5.00, by not having free delivery.

Promac Tools :: Measuring Tapes :: 4. Quicky Measuring Rule

If the local product has both metric and imperial measurements, then I'll purchase online from Germany or wherever.

I like it after watching the video here of it. Think I'll get one too.

Check out the Victorian distributors here.

    Default BMI Quicky 2m Tape

If not in any real hurry we will have them at the Melbourne Timber and Working with Wood show 21-23rd of October.

I keep one handy all the time for measuring small stock, as you say the others are big and bulky and drag your pants down,

There was a good review some time ago in the Australian woodworker by the big man Stan Ceglinski and he had big raps for this.

They are even handier than the traditional fold up rule.

    Default tape measure

I bought one obout 18mths ago for $10 at (i think) mitre 10 but my wife borrowed it and it now resides in her purse. They are great and very simple.
Don't force it, use a bigger hammer.

Timber is what you use. Wood is what you burn.

Jim, I am not in a hurry and I will purchase one from you at the show, but are yours metric only, or a combination ruler?

I also thought the three metre ruler would be more usable as a fair bit of stuff I measure is usually just over two metres.

I would reckon though, that I would have a two metre for the pocket and a three metre for the shed.

Yes we have the 3m tapes in stock.

The quicky is only in metric, it is a narrow tape so would get messy with both metric and imperial.

Also a lot easier to read either way with metric across the tape

Just to elaborate the quicky comes in 2m lenghts only.

All 3m tapes are normal tape measure design.

In saying that a 3m version would be good, must as the question next time I am haviing a chat with them.

Easier when measuring across sheets etc

    Agreed - thanks Jim.
In the workshop the 2m would serve most tasks, but there are too many times when using sheet goods and when doing construction that 3m would be better.
I watched a video somewhere of the quicky in action, and I'm sure that the one in it had an internal trigger (red) and came in 3m. I can't find it again though.

And during the video it says available in 2m and 3m.

    I didn't think I imagined it.

Thanks fellas, one and all. What a great little tape. Good find. And yes, the 3 metre version would be the go.

    I want one too.

    Cheers
