    Default finishing boxes

    Hi all
I have made several boxes, some I finished with Danish oil, some with Ubeaut traditional wax. I would now like to try Shellac on a new box. I made a mix of 2 parts Shellac plus one part 100 % methylated spirit and applied six coats on the box. I used a 1" squirrel/mix synthetic brush. The timber is Jarrah, fairly open grained and sanded to 2000 grit, sanding dust blown out with the compressor and finally cleaned up with a tissue wetted with 100% metho but the finish still feels fairly rough. Should I apply more coats, or sand it back with either sandpaper (which grit), or steel wool (will some steel clog up the grain?) or apply EEE. Or any other suggestions.
    thanks so much

After sanding the shellac each time, wipe over with white spirits rather than metho. The metho will soften the shellac, the white spirits won't. Just use a rag or paper towel slightly moistened with the WS.
