Default Southern Star - White Wheel Or White Elephant?

    Hi,

Does anyone here have any (inside) knowledge on the construction of the item? The reason I ask is that the "indefinite" closure has been blamed on parts of the wheel starting to buckle and crack due to the heatwave . Have inferior materials been used? Poor workmanship? etc. I cannot believe in this day & age that this would contribute to the problems.

The huge structure was manufactured in Melbourne, the columns were manufactured in Tasmania whilst the cabins, hubs & spindle were manufactured in Japan.

    Cheers

No idea, but at the gate price they want to charge for a look it's a white elephant.
I make things, I just take a long time.

I'd agree with you there Waldo. $29 is a bit rich compared to the London Eye which is $35 (at today's exchange rate). There is a 10% discount on that price if you book it via the internet. Plus the views are more spectacular (20 metres bigger in diameter) who wants to look at Melbourne's re-developement projects?
