    Default Another Quickie

Sanding belt/disc cleaners are available commercially - they seem to range from $9 - $18 depending on size.

Visit your local boot/shoe repairer - the "golden gristle" sole/heel material appears to be the same and certainly works just as well as the commercial type. Off-cuts usually end up in the bin so the price is right.

I know this is an old post but I've only just come across it. Another cheap alternative I've seen mentioned (but I haven't tried) is to used the hardened left over silicone from a caulking tube. Just make sure it's not soft in the middle.

I tend to avoid any silicone at all in the shed near any wood that is going to be finished. Having seen the "fish-eyes" caused by silicone in a finishing situation - very ugly and almost impossible to fix.

Not sure if dry silicone could have any adverse result on a finish but why take the risk when the gristle is cheap and has no problems with finishing.

He he ..just had a mental image of me cleaning the belt on my linisher with a (soft in the middle) silicone stick...
Just spent $8 on the belt ...just spent 1/2 hr fitting the belt and getting it to track properly on my 20yr old heap...give it a quick test with a piece of wood....works fine ..
...then give it a quick clean....with a (soft in the middle) silicone plug and smear it all over the belt ..
ah well ...just another day really

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I use rubber thongs that have been broken or abandoned.
