How to high glossfinish camphor with jarrah inlay

helo im new to the thread,
looking at making a 21st key from camphor with jarrah lettering inlay,
ive googled a few ideas but just wondering what is the best,

am i better to get clear stain and polish that up or try my luck at white shellack just wondering if anyone has some pictures of finished jarrah or camphor they have done with a high gloss finish

If the timber is already sealed you can get a very high gloss with WOP with only a few coats. If not sealed it may take you 6+ plus coats to succeed.

I assume by WOP, hughie means "Wipe On Polyurethane"? I've not used that before.

I tried some white shellac on a few projects, recently on camphor, and found it quite tricky to get a good finish, even on flat areas. I'm not even going to talk about trying to get into corners and details. It will require a bit of practice, and partularly on something detailed like a key, I think you will find it challenging to get a really good finish all over.

If you want a super high-gloss finish, your best option is probably a 2-pack epoxy finish. This is sold in bigger hardware stores, and also known as liquid glass. You mix it up from the 2 bottles, brush or pour it on, and leave to set while you throw the brush away. I haven't used it, but I've seen the finished result, and it is super glossy, and doesn't require buffing and polishing to get there.

I'm not sure if it can go on bare wood, or if it requires a pre-sealer.

Hi Even,
I apply a superglue finish sprayed with glen 20
sand back with 1000 grit
xxx
then polish with Glow
.....outstanding results............shines like glass!
