Curly Forest Red Gum
Milled this Butterfly matching pair today, from a log retrieved from Conondale(S.East Qld) a few years ago..the Butt log was over 2.1 m in diameter,of which these pieces came from..i am still to mill one of the head logs(forked),it measures over 2m in diameter as well...the tree was massive...on account of the lovely grain and colour,i thought they were worthy of showing...Forest Red Gum can sure be pretty..MM

Is it just me or can anyone else see the strange face brought out by the bookmatch? Thanks for sharing MM.

Magnificent, where do you find such timber on a regular basis.
Any tricks to identifying what is actually inside? A tree with a large pipe surely would be plain and grey looking from the outside.
Experience, sure..... in lieu of that?
Cheers

This ol' tree had an other surface resembling that of the moon...lumps and craters all over it,you could tell that it wasn't only aged, but had a hard life also...being a paddock grown tree,it would have been battered by the elements over time...they're the ones i look for...experience helps alot, but sometimes a little luck is involved too..glad you like them Barterbuilt..MM

Yup, you sure do have the right knack for finding the good stuff. Looks like you might even have the left one too.
This lot reminds me a little of some Cloud Rosewood that Greg Ward had a while ago, but without the colour variation.
