Chimney Framing
Hi All,
I'm nearlly finished the framing stage of what was supposed to be a small renovation and now I have decided I should pull the old frame around the chimney down as it wasn't designed for plaster and whoever put the air con in cut through the top plate making the whole wall unstable. My dilemma is there is a chimney in this wall and the AS1684.2 tells me I need AS 2918 which I don't have. I'm wondering if anyone would be so kind to tell me if I can build this like any other wall i.e. lintel above the fireplace to support the weight etc. I would really like to get this frame build tonight after work as it is only 3 meters in length and it is one of the last things I have to do before getting the inspector in. If it matters it was an old open fireplace that has had a Kanara put in it.
Thanks in advance.
