    Default Mongrel Thieves

I discovered this morning after the mob next door threw themselves a party last night they ran out of timber for their fire they were all sitting around. Hence to say they raided my timber supply at the back of my shed to keep themselves warm whilst drinking. I lost a slab of bluegum, there were four now i only have three( obviously thinking I woundn't miss one of them). All my spare firewood, some hardwood blanks that I was going to get a few chisel handles made out of and a pile of grevillia that I had left there to season for any one who wanted it for turning. Luckly enough the stuff I have here for a forum member was left alone. When I confronted the bloke he was and is very sorry as he didn't realise that it was my timber they were burning, or the fact they had gotten it from my yard. He has offered to replace it but has no idea where to start or how much it will cost him I am glad all my seasoned silky oak was locked away in my shed or it would have gone as well. he reckons he knows who it could have been and will try to get him to come over and see me about it. I don't think that would be wise at the moment with the mood this has left me in. I did suggest that if they felt unwell they may want to seek out a doctor because I think there was some treated timber in the stack as well that I had left there. I am so pi%&ed off with it all.

    Crikey, the idiots.

At least the neighbour seems decent about it (so far).

Hopefully the neighbour remains decent about it when he finds out how much it would cost to replace the wood.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Its just annoying because the way it haapened and what they took. If they had of asked me I had a pile older pine that they could have had. its still there buried under some longer lengths of stuff that would have made to much noise to move. I reckon your right there Echinda might just do it if I hear nothing else from them. I think the neighbour is extremely embarrased about it all. I will be interested to see if the bloke who did it has the balls to come round and see me. Some how I doubt it will happen sometime soon.

    Hi Dave

Sounds like your neighbour is pretty embarrassed so I would just give him the bill and try to remain friendly. Just let him blame his stupid mate, get the cash and put it behind you.

    cheers

At the moment I reckon ( with good cause ) you just want to give the dill who burnt it some more wood , like a 3 x 2 around the lug hole

Yep Dazzler I am thinking the same thing he and I had words yesterday and I told hm that I didnt blame him as he didn't do it. I did tell him that I was annoyed with it and what had happened and I think he could see what I meant. His missus gave him a massive serve as well because she didn't know about it till he told her. With it and the dicussion I had plus the wife venting her annoiance at his mates attitudes he isn't real popular. I did tell him that if any of them were feeling sick they may have sucked in a bit of smoke from the treated stuff they had burnt. If he pays up then that will be the end of it all and I will let it go and that will be the end of it. He has appologised and is generally sorry and I belive him hence why I told there will be no grudges held. I have had a few people telling me to get the police involved, but I don't to want as its a trivial matter and it will sort its self out in the end. Besides that the police are busy enough with worse crimes and situations than this to deal with. Its just frustrating to think that I have had people in my yard stealing.

you could wind him up a bit Bluegum
show him the "Maccasar Ebony" thread on "buy sell swap" , $50,000 per cube,
and suggest that some of your other stuff is missing as well,
huon pine, red cedar, rosewood, lignum vitea,
he'd have to sell his house to cover the bill
that might keep his mates away from your stash

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Sorry to hear of your loss of good timber.

I think you have gone around it the right way. From my experiences it seems it is the era of the idiot so I doubt if many others in their group would be capable of understanding that they did anything wrong.

You probably won't be able to change their attitude even with violence plus you have to live next door to their host.

The law seems to support and protect thieves when revenge is involved but the police don't do anything when theft is reported! They are too busy doing paperwork to make their grossly obese bosses look good.

    Pathetic isn't it

It seems that there is no perception of "boundries" with people anymore...an unfortunate sign of the times!

No fun in confronting someone, glad it went well for you Bluegum.

Yep wood borer no what you mean but violence solves nothing (temted though). if anything it creates a world of revenge where no one wins and things will get to a point where people can lose everything with law suits and other rubbish. Best thing I want to do is to just want to settle this right down and leave it to die its death. I doubt that I will have to many other issues with them after this as they know that what they have done is wrong and besides that we both have to live next door to each other and neither of us are moving real quickly. If we no longer speak then that's life and so be it. Have had a few ideas about dealing with it all and a PM from Corbs made a lot of sense, So thanks for that and we will see how it pans out as it develops from here. Am heading off to Redcliff way to get away fro mit all prior to heading back to work, so maybe a bit of fishing can help lear the cobwebs a bit.
