Holes in the Ground

Any one have any idea what has caused these holes in the ground, they keep appearing, if I fill them in they come back, I want to poor some petrol down the holes but Mrs Phil won't let me.

Hi Phil.

I had similar holes in the ground at a house i lived in in Queensland many years ago. they were caused by burrowing ground spiders. That may or may not be what is happening in your case. Hope that helps

I think they may be Cicada holes, get a GoPro and be like Attenborough

Have you had any big moths banging on the windows? We get them periodically, seem to emerge from holes like those, ~1cm diameter, sometimes with a yellow pupal case around 5cm long. Heaps in the lawn and paddocks. If this is the case, ain't no-one home by the time you find them, so petrol won't do too much.
