Default ACT - Looking for small project timber

    Arvo all.
New to the forum and picking up my interest in the hobby.
Anyone able to share the names of local(ish) suppliers of quality hardwoods for small projects.

    TIA

Monaro Timber has the biggest range. Are you after something particular?
Trend Timber in Sydney also has a big range, and is happy to deal in small pieces.

There's a good timber merchant in Mittagong almost next to the Eden Brewery....
    [sorry the name escapes me]

Thanks gents. Will check it out. Never against a reason to get to Mittagong. Or Queanbeyan [emoji14]

Not after anything in particular. Inspired with some maples, silky oaks, walnuts.

Building up to a guitar body soon (one day)

You've a few places to choose from.

The place in Mittagong people mention above I think was called "The Woodage" and had a website solidtimbertops | By The Woodage That now redirects to https://solidtimbertops.com.au/ but they might be worth a call.

You have Thor's Hammer down there for recycled stuff, and this is a place I'd love to get to one day: https://www.thors.com.au/products/

There's also Turners, who may or may not have something, but it can't hurt to look or ask: 403 Forbidden

And finally, from my stash of places, I found this one: Fyshwick Builders Suppliers established in 1946 – The biggest range and the best prices

    Hope this helps!

Maybe check out joining the ACT Woodcraft Guild. Members get very good prices on our stock, some of which is milled in house from local exotics. In the past couple of months I have milled up things like crowe's ash, London Plane, Sycamore, Claret ash, English elm, camphor laurel, Silky Oak, Alder, which are all either air dried, or in the process of being air dried. We generally have a selection of box making kits available for purchase at the guild shed, and larger stock out the back.

At the end-of-month meeting I know we had on display seasoned lots for sale to members, which included Huon Pine, plenty of South African plantation Blackwood, Red Gum, Crowe's Ash, Aust Cedar, Red Cedar, Rose Mahogany, Chinese Elm, Leopard Wood, London Plane, Vic Ash, etc & about 40 to 50 other species

Finally, if you are looking for rarer / unusual woods the other retailers (above) can’t supply, please contact me. But I am not a commercial supplier.

I'm divesting myself of a large and very diverse selection of mostly Australian species, most in smaller sizes suitable for:
    reference wood specimens,
    boxes,
    pens,
    bowls,
    tool handles,
    small tables etc,.

But ts best if you know what you want … if you do, I can tell you if I have it or not.

As I have family in Canberra and will be attending the IWCS wood Collectors function in Canberra in mid October 2019, I can bring something, if its its not large or heavy.

    Cheers, Euge (Warragul, Vic)
